Use Herd Manager in Your Language (Polish, Spanish & More)
Herd Manager is written in English, but you don't have to use it in English. There are two ways to translate it — the built-in language setting, or your browser's own translation feature. Both use machine translation, so a few goat-farming terms may come out imperfect, but day-to-day use works well in Polish, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Dutch, and Italian.
Option 1: The built-in language setting (recommended)
This works everywhere Herd Manager runs — including the Google Play app.
- Open Settings (the gear icon).
- Scroll to 🌍 Language (Beta).
- Pick your language from the list.
- The app reloads, translated. Your choice is remembered on this device until you switch back to English (original).
Translation is provided by Google Translate. It's labeled Beta honestly: it depends on a Google service outside our control, and if that service ever changes, your browser's translation (below) is the fallback.
Option 2: Your browser's translation
If you use Herd Manager in a web browser, the browser can translate it too:
- Chrome (computer): right-click anywhere on the page → Translate to…, or click the translate icon in the address bar.
- Chrome (Android): tap the ⋮ menu → Translate… and choose your language.
- Microsoft Edge: click the translate icon in the address bar.
Important: use one method or the other, not both. If the in-app language setting and your browser's translation are both on, the text gets translated twice and turns into nonsense. If things look garbled, turn one of them off.
What to expect
- Your data stays yours. Goat names, farm names, notes, and anything you type are never translated — they stay exactly as you entered them.
- Brief English flashes are normal. When the app redraws a screen, it appears in English for a moment before the translation catches up.
- Units don't change. Translation changes words, not measurements. For milk, you can already choose kilograms or liters under Settings → Measurement Preferences.
- Printed reports and emails stay in English for now.
Help us prioritize
Full native translation — real translated text instead of machine translation — is something we're weighing. If translation matters to your farm, tell us your language and whether translated words or metric units matter more to you: team@herdmanager.app. Real requests from real farms are exactly what moves this up the list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Herd Manager support Polish or Spanish?
Yes — via machine translation. Go to Settings → Language (Beta) and choose Polski, Español, or another language. The whole app is translated by Google Translate, while your goat names and records stay in the language you typed them.
Why does text briefly flash in English when I use the app?
Herd Manager redraws parts of the screen as you work, and each redraw appears in English for a moment before Google Translate catches up — usually under a second. It's normal and nothing is wrong.
Why do my goat names stay in English?
That's intentional. Goat names, farm names, and everything you type are proper nouns and records — translating them would corrupt your data. "Buttercup" stays "Buttercup."
The language setting doesn't do anything. Why?
An ad blocker or network filter may be blocking the Google Translate service. Try disabling the blocker for herdmanager.app, or use your browser's own translation instead (right-click the page → Translate in Chrome).
Can I translate the app from the Google Play version?
Yes — the in-app Language setting works in the Play Store app too. It's the browser-menu translation that isn't available there, so use Settings → Language.
