Goat gestation calculator with real due date ranges

One breeding date gives you one guess. The buck was in for three weeks? You need a window. This calculator uses breed-specific gestation — a Nigerian Dwarf isn't a Saanen — and handles pasture exposure properly.

Goat gestation calculator

Pick the breed, enter the breeding date — or the full exposure window if the buck ran with the does — and get the target due date plus the earliest and latest likely kidding dates. Same breed-specific math the app uses.

Ranges reflect normal biological spread for the breed. Individual does vary; anything outside the window warrants a call to your vet.

When the calculator isn't enough

A due date on a webpage is a start. A due date attached to the doe, with reminders, is a kidding season.

Every breeding, calculated

Log a breeding in Herd Manager and the due date, kidding window, and countdown attach to the doe automatically — with your own per-breed gestation length if your lines run early.

Tasks that fire on time

Pre-kidding CDT boosters, dry-off for milkers, and kidding-prep reminders generate from the due date — not from your memory.

Pasture breeding, handled

Buck in, buck out, and every exposed doe gets her own window. Heat-cycle clustering even predicts the likely kidding waves inside it.

From due date to kid records

When kids hit the ground, the kidding record links back to the breeding and kid profiles are created automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about goat gestation.

How long are goats pregnant?

Around 150 days, with normal variation by breed and individual. Standard-size dairy and meat breeds typically run 148–155 days; Nigerian Dwarfs and Pygmies run a little shorter at 145–152 with about 148 typical. That spread is why a single calculated date should always be treated as the center of a window, not an appointment.

How do I calculate a due date from pasture breeding?

Enter the date the buck went in and the date he came out. The earliest possible kidding is the buck-in date plus the breed's minimum gestation; the latest is the buck-out date plus the maximum. Your doe is due somewhere in that window — start watching at the front of it.

Do different goat breeds have different gestation lengths?

Yes, modestly. Miniature breeds like Nigerian Dwarfs and Pygmies average about 148 days, while standard breeds average about 150. Individual lines vary too — in Herd Manager you can set your own target gestation per breed and every due date uses it.

What if my doe goes past the window?

A doe a few days past a hand-breeding date can be normal — dates get miswritten, and heats get missed. But a doe clearly past the latest date of a known exposure window should be checked by a vet, especially if she's showing udder fill or discharge without progressing.

Give every doe her own countdown

The calculator answers one date. The app answers the whole season — due dates, windows, tasks, and kidding records for every doe you breed.
